Good numbers: •  General population = < 140/90 mmHg
•  Diabetics = < 130/80 mmHg
•  Diabetics with microalbuminuria/ preteinuria =    <120/70 mmHg

•  Metabolic syndrome

Diagnosis
(3 of the following criteria)
-  elevated waist circumference = >= 94 (men),
   = >= 80 (woman)
-  raised triglyserides = >1.7 mmol/l
-  reduced HDL = >1.0 mmol/l (men), >1.3 mmol/l    (woman)
-  Elevated BP (blood pressure) = >130/85 mmHg or    on BP medication
-  Elevated fasting blood sugar = > 5.6 mmol/l

•  Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

It is a common abdominal complaint that most people suffer from. The condition is uncomfortable and may be painful. Temporary stool stasis is the main cause of unpleasant symptoms. Stool stasis result in fermentation with gas production, presenting as abdominal distention and bloating. Pain and cramps is a result of muscles in the intestine contracting too tightly as the bolus of feces is forced through the colon by the pressure of gas. The end result is disturbances such as diarrhea or constipation.

Symptoms or signs:

-   small, hard stools (may be covered by mucus)
